ANCHORAGE (Nov. 8) – Alaska Anchorage senior guard
Elaina Mack tied two school records and broke one more Saturday, pouring in 41 points in a 100-57 women's basketball blowout of Northwest University at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Mack tied the program scoring record and the mark for most threes in half, while her 10 three-pointers broke the previous mark by one. The Seawolves (2-2) got 26 points and 15 rebounds from sophomore forward
Mahaila Harrison as they tied for the fourth-most rebounds (64) in program history as well.
The Eagles (0-2) – an NAIA program from Kirkland, Wash. – were led by 11 points and seven rebounds from reserve forward Taimane Auwae.
"We played far better defensively, and Elaina really got us going offensively with some big early baskets," said new UAA head coach
Matt Thune, who debuted with a 107-82 win over the same team Friday. "Elaina is the heart and soul of our program and has taken a huge leadership role, so it's extremely gratifying to see her have such a special night."
Leading 4-3, Mack drained her first three-pointer to begin an 11-0 surge. UAA led 27-18 in the opening minutes of the second quarter when freshman guard
Jennifer Nash drained a baseline jumper and was fouled, completing the traditional three-point play. The Seawolves would lead by double figures the rest of the way, carving a 60-23 halftime edge behind Mack's 7-of-8 long-range accuracy.
The preseason All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection finished 10 of 13 on threes and 15 of 24 from the floor, while setting a career rebounding high for the second night row with 12 boards.
Northwest transfer
Kimberly Carrada Sanchez had 10 points, five assists and four steals against her old team, while freshman guard
Mylee Anderson dished nine assists. Junior forward
Lillee Duffin had six points and 12 rebounds.
The Seawolves play their first NCAA Div. II games next week when they travel to Honolulu for games against Hawaii Pacific (Fri., Nov. 14, 7 pm AST) and Chaminade (Sat., Nov. 15, 5 pm AST). Find live stats and video ($) links at GoSeawolves.com.
