Allen earns all-region awards

Alaska Anchorage senior Tia Allen added another pair of honors to her resume Wednesday, earning All-West Region awards from both the College Sports Communicators and the American Volleyball Coaches' Association.

A 5-10 outside hitter, Allen was a second-team choice by the CSC and picked up honorable mention from the AVCA.

The Clayton, Wash., native was a unanimous First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference choice after helping the Seawolves to a 23-5 record, a share of the GNAC title and an NCAA Tournament berth. She has produced 17 double-doubles and holds GNAC top-15 ranks in kills (8th, 3.24 kps), points (9th, 3.69 pps) and digs (15th, 3.32 dps), while also leading the Seawolves in reception percentage at .956. With career totals of 1,221 kills, 1,228 digs and 108 aces, Allen recently became just the second player in 25 years of GNAC history to surpass 1200/1200/100 totals in all three categories.

The Seawolves in San Diego, Calif., this week for the NCAA Div. II West Regional Championships, where they play No. 5 seed Alaska Fairbanks (23-5) in the first round Thursday at 6 pm AST. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for free live video and stats links.
