ANCHORAGE (Nov. 22) – Junior guard
Tyler Burraston scored a career-high 24 points, but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not slow a red-hot three-point shooting display by Seattle Pacific on Saturday, falling 83-74 at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (11-18, 4-12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 18 points and eight rebounds from junior forward
Bishop Tosi as they lost despite committing just four turnovers, matching the third-lowest total in program history.
The Falcons were led by 23 points from forward Jonas La Tour and 13 points apiece from Mason Landdeck, Henry Sandberg and Grant Coleman, who combined to shoot 15 of 26 from long range. SPU made 16 of its first 29 treys to account for a season high in makes, while clinching a berth to the GNAC Tournament.
Looking to avoid a season sweep, the Seawolves went toe-to-toe with the visitors for the first 10 minutes. UAA grabbed its lone lead at 21-20 when
John McFadden – in his first game back from an elbow injury – grabbed a rebound and fed Burraston for a layup at the 10:34 mark.
Coleman answered with a trey at the other end, however, to start a 12-3 run for the Falcons. SPU took a 44-35 edge into the locker room after connecting on 9 of 19 threes in the opening 20 minutes.
Tosi scored inside to slice the deficit to 46-40 with 16:43 to play, but Nap converted a three-point play and Sandberg made a layup to spark a 10-0 surge by SPU.
UAA whittled the final margin to single digits behind the play of true freshman guard
Luke Johnston as the former Dimond High star accounted for eight points on 3-of-3 shooting – all in the second half.
Burraston shot 8 of 17 from the field and 5 of 6 on free throws to top his previous scoring high by one point. The Utah native also had four assists and no turnovers in a game-high 39 minutes.
Senior guard
Dillon Barrientos had 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting in his final home game, while junior wing
Hasaan Herrington had 11 points, two steals, and matched his career high with seven assists.
