Tosi tallies career-high 28 in loss at CWU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 6) – Junior forward Bishop Tosi scored a career-high 28 points, but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting Central Washington team Thursday in a 76-66 loss at Nicholson Pavilion.

The Seawolves (11-14, 4-8 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from junior guard Tyler Burraston in their first trip to Ellensburg since advancing to the GNAC Tournament title game last year.

The Wildcats (15-6, 9-2) were led by 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting and six rebounds from guard Garrett Anderson as they shot 54 percent from the field to maintain a one-game lead atop the GNAC standings.

"Our offensive execution in the second half was good, but we could not get that key stop that we needed defensively," said UAA head coach Rusty Osborne. "Our guys continue to display a lot of heart though, and we'll try to keep building on that when we take the court Saturday (at Northwest Nazarene)."

Despite falling into an early 14-7 hole, the Seawolves came back to take a 21-18 lead on one of Burraston's three three-pointers midway through the first half. The Wildcats used a timeout to stem the Seawolves' momentum, however, and answered with a 14-0 run over the next seven minutes.

UAA senior guard Dillon Barrientos scored on a feed from Sloan Lentfer to slice an 11-point halftime deficit to 44-37 at the 14:32 mark of the second half, only to see the hosts respond with a 7-0 surge.

Tosi – who shot 12-18 from the field (2-4 3FG) – sliced through the Wildcat defense for a layup to make it 57-51 with 6:32 remaining, but the Seawolves could not make it a two-possession game again until the final 50 seconds.

Barrientos finished with eight points, four rebounds and three assists, junior forward Jesse Stines had seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, and junior wing Hasaan Herrington had five points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals and no turnovers as UAA outrebounded the hosts 29-25.

Sophomore guard Zach Ibbetson added five points, three assists and matched his career high with five rebounds off the bench.

The Seawolves continue their three-game road swing Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. AST tip against Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Find live video and stats links at GoSeawolves.com.
