NAMPA, Idaho (Feb. 8) – Juniors
Jesse Stines and
Hasaan Herrington each delivered career-best efforts, but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start Saturday in a 72-51 loss to Northwest Nazarene at the Johnson Sports Center.
The Seawolves (11-15, 4-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) got 11 points from Stines, while Herrington had 11 points and nine rebounds to help UAA to a 36-30 advantage on the boards.
The Nighthawks (16-4, 9-3) were led by Kye Dickson's game-high 19 points, along with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting and six rebounds from Yaru Harvey, as they remained one game behind Central Washington for the GNAC lead.
Looking to avenge a 71-63 loss in Anchorage last month, the Seawolves found themselves playing catch-up when the Nighthawks nailed three three-pointers in the first two and half minutes to grab a 9-3 edge.
Herrington hit a short jumper to keep UAA within 26-16 with five minutes left in the first half, but the hosts would respond with a 12-0 run before the break.
Herrington's nine rebounds were his most as a Seawolf and matched his collegiate career high from his freshman season at Texas-Tyler. The East Anchorage High School product also had a pair of assists and steals, and shot 5 of 7 at the foul stripe.
Stines scored double figures for the third time and established a new career high thanks to 4-of-7 (3-5 3FG) shooting, while sophomore forward
Sloan Lentfer matched his season high with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Junior guard
Tyler Burraston had six points and six rebounds for UAA, and sophomore guard
Zach Ibbetson had seven points off the bench.
The Seawolves conclude a three-game road swing Saturday (3 p.m. AST) at Alaska Fairbanks. Find links to live video and stats at GoSeawolves.com.
