Seawolves fall in shootout

FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – Alaska Anchorage rallied to score two goals in the third period but Alaska Fairbanks won the shootout to claim the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Saturday.

The Nanooks won the season series 4-2.

Broten Sabo opened the game's scoring with a back-handed shot unassisted at 7:03 of the second period.

Dylan Finlay tied the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later with a wrist shot from the top of the circle.

Chase Dafoe tapped a loose puck in on the powerplay at 13:55 of the second period to give UAF a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.

The Nanook lead grew to 3-1 when William Lawson-Body scored on the doorstep at 1:35 of the third.

Dylan Finlay fired a long shot on the powerplay for his second goal of the game at 9:34, and Ethan Warrener tied the game at 12:38.

After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams headed to a shootout. Kyle Gaffney scored in the third round of the shootout to give UAF the win.

Max Helgeson and Ryan Johnson each finished with two assists for the Seawolves.

UAF led in shots 32-28. UAA scored on their lone powerplay opportunity, and UAF finished 1-for-3 on the man-advantage.

Tyler Krivtsov finished with 29 saves on 32 shots for UAA.

Alaska Anchorage will play three games on the East Coast next week starting at UConn on Feb. 12.
