HONOLULU (Oct. 31) – Junior guard
Bridgette Tello led five Alaska Anchorage players in double figures with 16 points and senior forward
Lillee Duffin posted a double-double Saturday, propelling an 83-52 women's basketball victory over Chaminade in the Hoops In Hawaii Tip-Off Classic at T.C. Ching Athletic Center.
Along with Duffin's 10 points and 10 rebounds, the Seawolves (1-1) got 13 points from 5th-year guard
Sheridan Liggett and 11 points and four steals from freshman guard
Kinzley Larsen as they led from start to finish.
The Silverswords (0-2) were led by 19 points from guard Ella Kletti, but the local school was outshot .507 to .321 and outrebounded 48-24.
"We had nice balance and a solid overall team effort today," said UAA head coach
Matt Thune. "I loved our start and we did a great job of maintaining our intensity and never letting Chaminade get in it. It's nice for our newcomers to get this first win in the books and we'll get ready for a tough challenge no matter who we draw tomorrow."
After falling behind early in Friday's loss to No. 2 Colorado Mesa, the Seawolves flipped the script on day two of the eight-team tournament. UAA led 10-0 when Liggett scored back-to-back baskets and pushed the lead to 21-9 on five straight points from Larsen.
The lead continued to expand in the second quarter, climbing to 41-19 on a fastbreak feed from
Kiara Stone (4 assists/3 steals) to Tello, and reaching 47-23 when Liggett scored just before the break.
Center
Bella Hays scored two of her 10 points (5-6 FG) to stake UAA to its largest lead at 70-39 late in the third quarter.
The Seawolves shot 65 percent from two-point range as Duffin went 5 of 6 from inside the arc and Tello was 7 of 7.
UAA completes its season-opening trip Sunday at 3:30 pm AST against Lubbock Christian (1-1), marking a rematch of the 2016 NCAA Div. II national title game. Find live video ($) and stats links at GoSeawolves.com.
