ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Braden Birnie scored with three seconds remaining to give Alaska Fairbanks a 4-3 win in game five of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup in front of 3,035 fans at Sullivan Arena Friday night.
The Nanooks lead this year's series 11-4.
Aiden Westin opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 7:51 of the first period thanks to assists from Ryan Johnson and Karter McNarland.
The Nanooks took the lead with a pair of goals in the second. Michael Citara scored a power-play goal at 11:18, and Chase Dafoe scored an even-strength goal at 15:22.
Tye Spencer tied the game for the Seawolves with his team-leading seventh goal of the season on the powerplay 35 seconds into the third.
Alexander Malinowski scored at 10:30 for UAF, but David Jesus scored less than a minute later for UAA to tie the game at 3-3.
Braden Birnie poked in a loose puck with three seconds remaining to give UAF the win.
Alaska Fairbanks out-shot Alaska Anchorage 33-17.
The Seawolves finished two-for-three on the powerplay and held the Nanooks to one-for-three.
Tyler Krivtsov made 29 saves for UAA.
Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks will faceoff for game six of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup at 5 pm Saturday at Sullivan Arena.
