INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 25) – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team finds itself in position for an NCAA Tournament berth with two games remaining in the regular season, premiering Wednesday at No. 5 in the NCAA Div. II West Regional rankings.
With a 19-8 overall record and a 14-8 mark against D-II foes, the Seawolves are one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams among the top 10 in the West, along with No. 3 Saint Martin's (17-5), No. 6 Northwest Nazarene (14-9) and No. 10 Montana State Billings (17-10).
California Collegiate Athletic Association leader Cal State East Bay paces the rankings with a 26-0 mark, while Pacific West Conference leader Point Loma (21-4) is second and Cal State Dominguez Hills (20-6) is fourth.
The GNAC, Pac West and CCAA tournament champions receive automatic berths to the NCAA West Regional Championships, along with the next five highest ranked teams. The final public regional poll will be released prior to those conference tournaments Mar. 4, with the announcement of the national playoff field on Mar. 8.
