ANCHORAGE – Senior outside hitter
Lee Ivakina blasted 21 kills and made 15 digs Saturday to lead the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 victory over the Seawolf Alumni in an exhibition match at the Alaska Airlines Center.
In their first action under new head coach
Morgan Hooe, the current Seawolves also got six kills and 18 digs from newcomer
Kyana Gabriel, along with six kills apiece from veterans
Bella Burney (6-0-16, .375) and
Emma Beck (6-0-14, .429).
The alumni were led by nine kills from Maureen Sabado (2012-14) and eight kills from Bethany Tuchardt (2023-24), while former All-American
Ellen Floyd (2018-22) nearly reprised her triple-double from last year's match with six kills, 13 digs and 13 assists.
A returning All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection, Ivakina hit .333 (21-5-48) and equaled junior setter
Hannah Trotter with a match-best four aces. Trotter also had a match-high 32 assists as UAA hit .307 over the final two sets.
Martina Riba and
Trinity Byrne tallied five kills apiece, and senior
Elena Hansen had 10 digs for UAA, which opens the regular season Thursday (3 pm ADT) with a match against Chaminade in Hilo, Hawaii.
