ANCHORAGE (Aug. 31) - Outside hitter Miranda Rhodes had 15 kills to lead ninth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney to a 30-25, 30-28, 30-17 victory over the Seawolf volleyball team tonight in the UAA Invitational.
Freshman Carolyn DeKay had 15 kills to lead UAA (3-2), which will face a 7 p.m. rematch with UNK in Saturday night's title match. The Lopers (6-1) completed round-robin play 3-0 and UAA was 2-1.
DeKay, who hit .355 (15 kills-4 errors-31 attempts) was one of the few bright spots offensively for UAA, which was held to a .115 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Marise Knock led UAA with 10 digs, while junior middle blocker Brianne Halling had five kills and four blocks.
In the early evening match, St. Joseph's posted its first win of the tournament, 30-18, 30-17, 30-23 over San Francisco State. St. Joe's finished round-robin play 1-2, while SFSU went 0-3. The Pumas and Gators will meet for third place Saturday at 5 p.m.
