Seawolf women clawed by Wildcats

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 12) - The UAA women's basketball team ran into another hot-shooting team as Central Washington beat the Seawolves 78-55 behind 19 points from center Rose Shaw at the Sports Center tonight.

UAA (4-11, 0-6 GNAC) got 14 points and 10 rebounds from senior center Bell Jordan, but CWU (10-4, 4-2) shot 54.5 percent from the field, including a 17-of-29 showing in the second half.

Shaw, a senior center who is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's leading scorer, delivered 12 points in the first half as CWU forged a 34-28 advantage. Shaw's teammates then provided plenty of help as the Wildcats outscored the Seawolves 26-8 in the first 10 minutes after the break.

Freshman Jen Stoddard led UAA with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, the second straight game the 5-11 forward has established a personal scoring best.

Jordan's double-double was her seventh of the season, the most in the GNAC.

The Seawolves travel to Fairbanks on Saturday, Jan. 19 in search of a victory over arch-rival UAF. That game tips off at 3 p.m. Alaska time. There will be no radio broadcast of the game as previously scheduled.
