WINTER PARK, Colo. (Jan. 25) - Aurore deMaulmont posted a third place finish in the women's giant slalom today to help the Seawolves to the sixth-place spot after the first day of the Denver Ski Invitational. Two-time defending national champion Denver leads the team competition in its own meet with 291 points.
deMaulmont put two giant slalom runs together in a total time of 2:05.88 to tie with Colorado's Tove Pashkowski for third at Winter Park Resort. Julie Leclerc had a 2:07.97 for 18th, while Courtney Yamada posted a 2:08.32 for 23rd.
Andreas Neuhauser was the only Seawolf finisher in the men's giant slalom. He was 18th with a combined time of 2:08.31.
Leslie Boyd's time of 33 minutes, 15.8 seconds was good for fourth in the women's 10,000-meter Classic race held in Fraser, Colo. Kiersten Lippmann finished with a 36:29.0 for 23rd place. Other UAA finishers were Sara Nielsen (32nd, 38:05.7), Amy Lambe (34th, 38:24.7), Stacy Edwards (35th, 38:36.6), Sarah Hansen (37th, 39:14.5) and Nicole Hanson (38th, 39:17.7).
Tobias Schwoerer was the top male Seawolf with a fifth place performance (43:08.5) in the men's 15-K Classic race. Eric Strabel posted a time of 45:17.9 for 11th place. Andy Elvester was 27th with a 47:28.2.
The skiers are back at it again Saturday. The Nordic student-athletes will race the freestyle events, while the Alpiners compete in the slalom.
