Saints catch fire, upset Seawolves

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 25) - Alana Erickson and Julia Eisentrout combined for 45 points as hot-shooting Saint Martin's snapped the UAA women's basketball team's six-game home winning streak, 77-55 at the Sports Center tonight.

UAA (8-6, 3-3 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) got 13 points from Mindy Mendenhall and 12 from Tanya Nizich, but the Seawolves shot just 29.4 percent from the field.

Meanwhile, Eisentrout and Erickson went a combined 7-for-9 from three-point range as the Saints (7-9, 3-4) hit 11 of 20 threes and all 16 of their free throws. The visitors from Lacey, Wash., shot 48.1 percent overall.

UAA star Kamie Jo Massey had a strange double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but she was held to 2-of-13 shooting and scored just seven points.

Sophomore forward Jen Stoddard came off the bench to shoot 4-for-6 for a season-high nine points, but it wasn't enough as UAA fell behind 18-6 to begin the game and never got closer than five points.

UAA is back on the road next week for games at second-ranked Seattle Pacific (Jan. 30) and Central Washington (Feb. 1).
