Gymnasts improve to 3-2

ANCHORAGE (Jan. 22) - Jessica Portlock won the all-around and the Seawolves came up with solid routines on beam and floor to score a 188.700-139.500 gymnastics victory over Winona State at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Saturday.

UAA swept the top three spots on vault, bars and floor as it improved its dual record to 3-2.

The Seawolves struggled on vault to begin the meet but began to come together on bars, led by Dominique Ingram's 9.725. Portlock came through with a 9.675 to win the beam, and Ingram, Amy Jones and Tiffany Staton all tied for top honors on floor at 9.675.

Jessica Vandenheuvel had the Warriors' top performance, placing second on beam with a 9.55. WSU is down to just four gymnasts.

UAA's team score was 11th-best in school history, barely beating last night's 188.675, while the bars performance (46.975) was 10th and the floor (48.150) 12th on the all-time lists.

The Seawolves will face a bigger challenge next week when they travel to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival Air Force for meets Jan. 28 and 30.
