ST. PAUL, Minn.(Mar. 17) - UAA freshman goaltender Nathan Lawson, who recorded the third-best single-season save percentage total in program history this season, was named to the 2004-05 All-WCHA Rookie Team today at the 2005 WCHA Awards Ceremony held here at the RiverCenter.
Lawson posted a 7-15-3 record, 3.32 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in his rookie campaign with the Seawolves while earning WCHA Player of the Week accolades four times. In three playoff games against Wisconsin the Calgary, Alberta product stopped 126 of 132 shots recording an outstanding .955 save percentage.
Lawson, the fourth UAA goalie to be named to the all-rookie team, is the seventh Seawolf overall to garner the honor. Chris King was the last Seawolf to earn the award at the conclusion of the 2000-01 season.
The honor is voted on by coaches, team captains, sports information directors and by the media.
UAA also placed nine student-athletes on the 2005 WCHA All-Academic Team which was also announced today.
A total of 88 student-athletes, representing all 10 WCHA member
institutions earned All-Academic accolades. Four of the Seawolf
honorees earned recognition on last season's All-Academic Team.
To earn All-Academic Team honors, student-athletes must meet the
following criteria -- have completed at least one year of residency at
present institution prior to the current academic year; have a grade
point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two
semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is at
least 3.00 for all terms at his present school; and have completed in
at least half of his school's varsity intercollegiate games during the
current season (goaltenders must have played at least 33 percent of
his team's minutes during the course of the season).
