Seawolf head hockey coach Hill resigns

ANCHORAGE (June 10)- University of Alaska Anchorage head hockey coach John Hill has resigned his position to accept an assistant hockey coaching position at the University of Minnesota. That announcement was made today by Dr. Steve Cobb, UAA director of athletics.

?
"John inherited a tough situation here and we are grateful to him for his contributions in getting Seawolf Hockey headed in the right direction," said Dr. Cobb. "He accomplished many good things here and we wish he was staying, and, yet, we certainly wish him and his family nothing but the best."

A graduate of UAA and former team captain and assistant coach with the Seawolves, Hill posted a 38-89-21 record in four years as head coach after returning to his alma mater in 2001. Winners of back-to-back Nye Frontier Classic titles in 2003 and 2004, Hill's Seawolves earned the school's first-ever trip to the WCHA Final Five in 2004 and came within one win of repeating that feat in 2005.

"I would like to thank UAA for four wonderful years," said Hill. "I appreciated the opportunity to come back to my alma mater as head coach and have appreciated the efforts of our staff and players. I feel the program is in good shape to move forward."
