Lawson lands WCHA co-Defensive Player of the Week nods

MADISON, Wis. (Jan. 23) - Sophomore goaltender Nathan Lawson, who led the Alaska Anchorage hockey team to a pair of 2-2 ties last weekend at Michigan Tech, has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Lawson made a series total of 89 saves (.957 save percentage) and posted four shutout periods against the Huskies while holding MTU to only one power-play goal in 14 opportunities. The Calgary, Alberta product stopped 38-of-40 shots Friday and a career-high 51-of-53 Saturday to help lead the Seawolves to their first two-game unbeaten streak this season.

His 51-save effort ties for the seventh-best single-game save total by a UAA goalie in the 27-year history of the program. Lawson bettered his previous career-best mark of 48 set Jan. 6 in a 5-3 win against North Dakota.

Lawson, who also earned the weekly defensive honor on Dec. 12, shared this week's award with Denver netminder Glenn Fisher.
