Crusaders cruise past Seawolves

NAMPA, Idaho -- Heather Lyons had 10 kills and Rachael Knecht made 15 digs, but the Seawolf volleyball team couldn't keep up with Northwest Nazarene here Saturday in a 30-25, 30-25, 30-17 loss at the Johnson Sports Center.

UAA (5-15, 2-9 GNAC) also got 32 assists and 14 digs from setter Tehane Kahalehau, while NNU (10-9, 5-5) was powered by 11 kills from Cammi Dranginis and 14 digs by Amanda Boschmna.

After dropping the first game, the Seawolves seemed to come out more focused in the second, taking their first lead at 18-17 on an attack error by NNU's Lindsey Fryer. The Crusaders forged ahead 25-24, however, and clinched the game with three consecutive kills.

UAA began the third game with a 5-1 lead before succumbing midway through the frame.

Cristal Negron had 11 kills for UAA, while senior middle blocker Chelsey Jones led the team with 5 total blocks (2 solo).

The Seawolves host their final home series of the season next week with matches against Seattle University (Thu., Oct. 19, 7 p.m.) and Western Washington (Sat., Oct. 21, 7 p.m.). Saturday's match will be Senior Night and feature prematch ceremonies honoring Knecht and Jones.
