Repcinova leads way for Alpine team on Day 1 of WSC Invite

CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (Feb. 10) - Freshman Kristina Repcinova's sixth-place finish in the women's giant slalom highlighted the UAA Alpine ski team's efforts on the opening day of competition at the Western State Invitational here today.


Repcinova's fourth top-10 result of the season helped lead the Seawolf women's team to a fourth-place overall standing in the event. The native of Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, recorded a two-run time of 2:39.34, finishing 2.34 seconds behind the winning time set by Colorado's Lucie Zikova.


Freshman Stefanie Klocker finished 16th (2:41.65), freshman Allison Empey placed 20th (2:42.59) and freshman Brittany Bahled finished 25th (2:44.49) for UAA's women, who have recorded top-5 team finishes in all seven races this season.


UAA's men had a tough go of it in the slalom, finishing seventh overall out of nine teams. Senior Christian Ringvold provided the top result with an 18th-place effort (1:15.04), followed by freshman Max Meier-Meitinger in 22nd (1:16.55) and sophomore Timothee Theaux in 32nd (1:22.23). Theaux, who's ranked No. 4 in the slalom in the RMISA, clocked the fifth-best time after his first run.


Also finishing for the men was freshman Jonathan Hverven (40th, 1:30.35) and senior Dave Duncan (42nd, 1:42.33).


Nevada's Cameron Barnes won the men's race in 1:13.12.


Colorado's women took top team honors in the women's GS by amassing 87 points, while Nevada won the men's slalom with 81.


Colorado leads the overall team standings with 461 points after four of eight events, followed by Denver (438) and New Mexico (414). UAA, who is competing with just its Alpine squad, is ninth overall with 88.


The Seawolves will conclude the Western State Invite Saturday with the women's slalom and men's GS.
