GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Junior Merit Waldrop scored with just under four minutes remaining in regulation to help Alaska Anchorage earn an important Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation point with a 3-3 tie at 20th-ranked North Dakota here tonight in front of 11,402 fans at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Waldrop's goal, coupled with sophomore defenseman Mat Robinson's late second-period score, brought the Seawolves (10-10-3, 6-10-1 WCHA) back from a 3-1 deficit to snap a five-game conference losing skid. The tie, UAA's first in league play this season, extended its unbeaten streak against the Sioux (10-11-2, 6-9-2 WCHA) to three games.

Junior goalie Nathan Lawson stopped 28 of 31 UND shots, including four in the overtime session, improving his career mark against the Sioux to 4-2-1.

Freshman Josh Lunden was responsible for spotting the Seawolves a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game before UND would answer with three straight tallies to take a 3-1 lead at the midway point of the second.

Ryan Duncan struck for two goals in the final 2:22 of the first period giving the Sioux a 2-1 advantage at the first break while Brad Miller would put UND ahead 3-1with a power-play goal at 11:24 of the second.

Robinson brought the Seawolves back to within one with his unassisted tally at the 16:28 mark of the second before Waldrop would connect for the game-tying score at 16:53 of the third.

Freshman Paul Crowder and senior Justin Bourne were credited with assists on Lunden's first-period score while junior Peter Cartwright and senior Nick Lowe picked up helpers on Waldrop's goal.

UAA, who outshot UND 35-31, went scoreless on the power play for the third straight game at 0-for-3. The Sioux went 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

UND goalie Philippe Lamoureux stopped 32 shots, including 13 in both the second and third periods.

The two teams will meet in the series finale Saturday at 4:07 p.m.
