ANCHORAGE ? Kevin Clark scored two goals and Jon Olthuis registered 18 saves to lead the Alaska Anchorage hockey team to a 4-3 win over Minnesota-Duluth in the WCHA opener for both teams at the Sullivan Arena Friday night. The Seawolves improved to 4-1-0 overall while the Bulldogs of UMD fell to 3-1-1.

The Seawolves jumped to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Tommy Grant (10:05) and Clark (17:43). UMD's MacGregor Sharp scored just 2:00 into the second frame to cut the Seawolf lead to just one. But second-period power-play tallies by Paul Crowder at 8:41 and Clark at 12:04 put the Seawolves up 4-1.

UMD stormed back to pull within one on two Justin Fontaine power play goals ? the first at 17:23 of the second period and the second just 3:09 into the final frame. A seemingly game-tying power play goal by the Bulldogs' Trent Palm at 10:05 of the third was waived off after video review revealed a UMD player's skate in the crease collided with the skate of UAA's Olthuis.

UAA was forced to kill off yet another penalty ? a tripping call at 15:30 of the third on Craig Parkinson ? before hanging on down the stretch for the victory. Penalties played a big role in the game as UAA went 2-for-4 on the power play while UMD was 2-of-9.

Josh Lunden and Brian Bales were both credited with two assists on the night, while Paul Crowder, Kane Lafranchise, Shane Lovdahl and Mat Robinson recorded one helper each. Lunden, Crowder and Bales have now scored at least one point in all five UAA games to start the season.

UMD goaltender Alex Stalock, now 3-1-1 on the season, was credited with 10 saves. UAA's Olthuis improved to 2-1-0 on the season.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for 7:07 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
