ANCHORAGE ? Texas Woman's used a pair of balanced statistical efforts to go 2-0 on Friday in the first day of the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational, scoring a 3-1 victory over Harding, followed by a 3-0 win over Ohio Valley.
The Pioneers, of Denton, Texas, beat Harding 25-20, 8-25, 25-21, 25-23, before dispatching Ohio Valley 25-8, 25-20, 25-23 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
In the first match, outside hitter Sharon Schaffner had seven kills, 11 digs and three block assists as the Pioneers rallied for comeback victories in sets 1, 2 and 4, including erasing a 22-18 deficit in the fourth frame.
Harding (0-1) got double-digit kills from three players, led by Manuela Nesheva's 15, but the Lady Bisons lost despite leading in nearly every team statistical category.
In the second of back-to-back matches, sophomore LyGene' Traylor tallied a team-high eight kills and sophomore Danielle Veitenheimer notched seven kills on .545 hitting for TWU, while libero Arden Richardson managed a match-best 14 digs.
Ohio Valley (0-2) was led by eight kills from Amanda Schell.
Should Alaska Anchorage defeat Harding in tonight's late match, it would set up a UAA-TWU title tilt Saturday night. A Harding victory over UAA would mean championship slots would not be decided until Saturday's early action is complete.
