Chugiak star becomes first 2010 UAA signee

ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Anchorage volleyball team landed a sizeable local talent Tuesday when head coach Chris Green announced that Chugiak High's Robyn Burton has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves.

A 5-11 middle blocker, Burton is coming off a 2009 season in which she helped the Mustangs to the Cook Inlet Conference title and a 17-3 overall record. She was an all-tournament pick at all of her team's events - State, Regions, Dimond-Service Invite - and received the 'Best Hitter' award at the ASAA Class 4A State Tournament.

"Robyn was certainly a force in high school with her tremendous athleticism and good timing on offense," said Green, who led UAA to this year's Great Northwest Athletic Conference title. "She improved a lot from her junior to her senior year, so we're excited to help her continue that progress.

"She has the potential to be a real force in our conference over the next four years. We're thrilled that she chose to stay home and be a Seawolf."

As a junior in 2008, Burton was also an all-tourney pick at the 4A State tournament, leading the Mustangs to a runner-up finish.

The Seawolves graduate three players from this year's 23-8 squad.
