Women cruise to 5th straight win

ANCHORAGE – Sophomore forward Alysa Horn posted her third straight double-double and senior Nikki added 17 points Saturday as the 11th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team cruised to their second lopsided victory over Chaminade in as many days, 102-43 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (10-2) finished the non-conference portion of their season with five straight victories, getting 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals from Horn, plus 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, three assists and four steals from junior center Hanna Johansson.

The Silverswords (0-7) were led by 10 points from center Kayci Will, while guard Kristen Canencia managed six points and four assists.

Less than 24 hours after a 105-30 win over the visitors from Honolulu, UAA began the rematch with a 23-2 run and led 65-24 at halftime. The Seawolves shot 67.6 percent from the floor as they posted the third-most first-half points in program history and the most ever against a fellow NCAA Division II opponent.

Horn, a 6-footer from Kodiak, made her first seven field goals, including her only three-pointer, and sank all three of her free throws. Meanwhile, Aden shot 7 of 11 from the field and reserve guard Sarah Herrin delivered a season-high 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting (2-2 3FG).

UAA got points from 14 of its 15 players, while freshman center Caitlin Nelson had five rebounds, three blocks and two steals despite being the only Seawolf not to score.

Freshman guard Kylie Burns tallied a career-high nine points, along with three assists and three steals, and redshirt sophomore guard Jordan Martin scored her first points of the season with a pair of three-pointers in the second half.

UAA outrebounded the 'Swords 43-17, allowing the fourth-fewest opponent rebounds in program history, and the Seawolves finished plus-.500 shooting for the first time this year, making 37 of 72 (51.4 percent) from the field.

The Seawolves return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Jan. 1 when they visit Montana State Billings for a 3:15 p.m. AST tip-off in Nampa, Idaho.
