Panthers pounce on Nanooks, 3-0

ANCHORAGE – Ali Rook had nine kills and six digs Friday to lead a balanced attack as Drury knocked off Alaska Fairbanks 3-0 in the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational volleyball tournament at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Senior middle blocker Kyrie Hopkins tallied eight kills, including match point, in the Panthers' 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 victory. Senior setter Austin Warren paced Drury (1-1) with 27 assists and nine digs, while libero Michelle O'Dell had a match-high 11 digs.

UAF (0-1) got a match-high 13 kills, plus eight digs, from senior outside hitter Tereza Bendlova, but the Nanooks were outhit .212 to .057 by their opponents from Springfield, Mo., and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Nanooks and Panthers will meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. ADT in the Invitational's third match. Saturday's finale will feature Drury and host Alaska Anchorage at 6 p.m.
