Penker excels at Austrian national meet

Alaska Anchorage sophomore gymnast Simone Penker recently posted an impressive performance at the Austrian National Championships, placing third in the all-around with 49.050 points.

With her showing at the Nov. 10 event in Terlitz, Penker qualified to compete on the Austrian National Team that will attempt to qualify for the 2014 World Championships.

In addition to the all-around, the Maria Saal, Austria, native also earned a podium finish on vault in third place, along with fourth place on floor and fifth on beam.

Penker and the Seawolves will premiere their 2014 squad at the annual Green & Gold meet, Dec. 14 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex. The exhibition event begins at 7 p.m. AST and admission is free.
