Seawolves sail past Silverswords, 93-57

ANCHORAGE – Freshman Leah Bonner produced her second straight double-double Saturday as the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team rolled to a 93-57 victory over Chaminade at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves (2-0) also got 17 points and nine rebounds apiece from seniors Alli Madison and KeKe Wright to stay unbeaten in 10 all-time matchups against the Pacific West Conference squad.

The Silverswords (0-2) were led by 14 points and seven rebounds from guard Glacen Florita.

One night after blowing out Holy Names 92-35 in the season-opener, the Seawolves struggled at the outset against the Hawaiians, trailing 10-6 after eight minutes. But UAA got to the line for four straight free throws and Megan Mullings sank a layup to start a 16-0 run over the next three and a half minutes, putting the Seawolves solidly in control.

UAA led 44-20 at halftime and extended the lead throughout the second half.

Last year's Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Idaho, Bonner finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds – including 10 offensive – in just her second collegiate game. She was joined in double figures by Mullings (13 pts, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) and junior guard Jessica Madison (12 pts, 2 assists, 3 steals).

Wright shot an efficient 4-of-5 from the field and 9-of-12 at the free throw line, while Alli Madison collected four assists and a game-high six steals.

Sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson – a Honolulu native – dished eight assists and had three steals against her hometown team, while reserve point guard Adriana Dent collected five of UAA's 24 steals. The Seawolves forced 39 turnovers and outrebounded the Silverswords 56-40.

UAA returns to action next week for its first games in the new Alaska Airlines Center when it hosts Christian Brothers (Tenn.) on back-to-back nights. Thursday's tip is set for 7 p.m. and Friday's for 7:30 p.m. AST.
