Bailey named All-WCHA First Team

MADISON, Wis. – Senior forward Matt Bailey became just the second athlete from Alaska Anchorage to make the All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association First Team, while 16 Seawolves were named to the WCHA All-Academic Team for 2013-14, announced by the league Thursday.

Bailey, a native of Oakbank, Manitoba, joined goaltender Gregg Naumenko (1999) as the only Seawolves to receive All-WCHA First Team honors and just the sixth overall to garner all-league accolades. The last Seawolf to be honored was Matt Shasby, who was named All-WCHA Second Team in 2002.

UAA's leader this season with 35 points and 18 goals, Bailey was not only honor for his performance on the ice but also in the classroom. Bailey joined 15 other Seawolves that were named to the conference's All-Academic Team, including four that received the academic honor for the third straight year.

Joining Bailey with three WCHA All-Academic awards is his linemate, junior Brett Cameron, while seniors Chris Kamal and Quinn Sproule each furnished their third honor. Collecting their second straight were juniors Scott Allen, Austin Coldwell and Kory Roy.

First time honorees included Blake Leask, Ben Matthews, Michael Matyas, Bobby Murphy, Stephen Obarzanek, Andrew Pettitt, Austin Sevalrud, Blake Tatchell and Hayden Trupp.
