ANAHEIM, Calif. – Alaska Anchorage senior captain Matt Bailey has signed a two-year deal with NHL's Anaheim Ducks, announced by the team Wednesday. Bailey will begin his pro career with the team's AHL affiliate in Norfolk.
“I want to thank the people of Anchorage and the University of Alaska Anchorage for allowing me to chase my dreams while getting my education,” said Bailey, “I feel truly grateful to have been able to live in Alaska and have this amazing experience.”
Bailey – a WCHA First-Team honoree – was a four-year letterwinner for the Seawolves, posting a team-high 20 goals and 38 points this season. The Oakbank, Manitoba, native finished his collegiate career with 94 points, which ranked him No. 23 on the all-time UAA list. Additionally, Bailey led UAA off the ice, furnishing his second career WCHA Scholar-Athlete award, while being named to the WCHA All-Academic Team for the third consecutive season.
“I'd like to thank the entire coaching staff this year for making this the best year of hockey of my career,” said Bailey.
Bailey is already in Norfolk, and is working with professors at UAA to complete his degree in marketing this Spring.
