Lions hand Seawolves first loss in SpringHill Suites finale

ANCHORAGE – Outside hitters Lauren Campbell and Tawni Warren combined for 21 kills to pace a balanced Saint Leo attack Saturday as the visitors from Florida handed the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team its first loss at the Alaska Airlines Center with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-22 sweep in the finale of the SpringHill Suites Invitational.

The Seawolves (3-1) got 13 kills on .458 hitting from junior right-side hitter Julia Mackey, plus 10 kills and seven digs from junior outside hitter Katelynn Zanders, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. UAA captured the overall title despite the loss, due to its overall 3-1 record.

The Lions (2-2), from the Sunshine State Conference, also got nice nights from outside hitter Hope Lemon (7 kills, 9 digs, 3 aces) and libero Yaidimar Santiago (22 digs) to become the first visiting team to win in UAA's brand-new arena.

Saint Leo won the hitting battle .255 to .180 and out-dug the Seawolves 55-46.

UAA returns to action next week with four matches at the GNAC/Pac West Cross-Over tournament in Riverside, Calif., Sept. 11-13.
