#7 Seawolves vault over Vulcans, 92-39

HILO, Hawaii – Senior forward Megan Mullings scored 24 points and junior Kiki Robertson dished eight assists Thursday to help nationally the nationally 7th-ranked Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team roll to a 92-39 victory over Hawaii-Hilo at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Seawolves (9-0) also got a career-high 15 points from senior guard Christina Davis as they outscored the hosts 45-14 in the second half.

The Vulcans (0-1) got 10 points and three assists from guard Lauren Hong, but the Pacific West Conference club was outrebounded 47-25 and outshot 54 percent (37 of 69) to 29 percent (13 of 45).

UAA trailed 10-6 after the first five minutes before establishing its pressure defense, which would force Hilo into 27 turnovers. Davis gave the Seawolves a 14-13 lead with a short jumper at the 2:03 mark of the first quarter, sparking a 13-0 surge for the visitors.

The Seawolves extended to a 47-25 lead on Hannah Wandersee's free-throw line jumper just prior to halftime, and the advantage grew to 61-26 before the Vulcans scored their first basket of the third quarter at the 4:15 mark.

Jenna Buchanan added 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3FG) and fellow senior guard Jessica Madison had 12 points as she became the 13th player in program history to surpass 1,000 for her career – now with 1,001. Meanwhile, Mullings scored double figures for the sixth straight game and had her third 20-plus effort of the season, shooting 11 of 14 from the field.

Davis and Mullings paced UAA with six rebounds apiece as all 11 Seawolves grabbed at least two boards, and all 11 scored at least one point. Robertson added four of UAA's 14 steals, while Buchanan had three swipes.

The Seawolves and Vulcans will meet in a rematch on the same court Friday at 7 p.m. AST.
