#7 UAA crushes Hawaii-Hilo for 10-0 start

HILO, Hawaii – Jessica Madison scored a game-high 20 points and fellow senior Megan Mullings added 19 points Friday to lead No. 7 Alaska Anchorage to an 80-33 women's basketball victory over Hawaii-Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Seawolves (10-0) also got 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and five rebounds from senior guard Keiahnna Engel to earn their second lopsided victory over the Vulcans (0-2) in as many nights.

Hawaii-Hilo was led by 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting by starting guard Kim Schmetz.

Mullings – who shot 7 of 10 from the field – scored baskets on UAA's first three possessions for a 6-0 lead, and the Seawolves would never trail. UAA led 19-7 after one quarter and 41-16 at halftime as it posted its sixth victory of at least 45 points this season.

Madison shot 6 of 9 from the field and 5 of 8 from long range as the Port Angeles, Wash., native moved into third place on UAA's career three-pointers list, now with 168. Fellow senior guard Jenna Buchanan also got into the act with 10 points (2-3 3FG), five rebounds and three assists, while sophomore forward Sierra Afoa grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.

Honolulu native and sophomore point guard Kiki Robertson added two assists and five steals with no turnovers, and freshman guard Tara Thompson finished with five points and five rebounds.

The victory extends a pair of program-best streaks for UAA, which has now won 12 straight true road games and 17 straight road/neutral contests since the start of the 2014-15 campaign.

Up next, the Seawolves face their annual pair of NCAA Div. I opponents when they host the GCI Great Alaska Shootout, Nov. 24-25 at the Alaska Airlines Center. UAA opens against Pepperdine on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. and will play either George Mason or Western Kentucky on Wednesday.
