Tars, Lions capture 4-set victories

ANCHORAGE – Payton Hamilton ripped 18 kills on sizzling .581 hitting Saturday to help No. 19 Arkansas Fort Smith stay unbeaten with a 25-18, 27-25, 21-25, 25-16 victory over Stanislaus State in the eighth match of the SpringHill Suites Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Hamilton committed no attack errors on 31 attacks and added seven digs, while Kennedi Coleman notched 17 kills for the Lions (3-0). Setter Erin Black dished 49 assists and made nine digs, while middle blocker Shannon Thompson was in on nine blocks, including a pair of solos.

UAFS and host Alaska Anchorage remain the only 3-0 teams in the round-robin tournament, meaning tonight's tournament finale (7:30 p.m.) will be for the championship for the 20th annual event.

The Warriors (1-2) got 42 assists and 11 digs from setter Maddi Seidl, plus 11 kills and 10 digs from outside hitter Sara Schell in the loss. Stanislaus State takes the court again at 4:30 p.m. against Rollins (1-2), with the winner claiming third place.

Rollins outside hitter Bri Civiero accounted for 13 kills, 20 digs, four assists and a pair of blocks Saturday to lead her team to a 25-20, 15-25, 25-16, 25-16 victory over Westminster in the SpringHill Suites Invitational.

The Tars (1-2) also got a match-high 16 kills on .387 hitting from Shannon McDonough as the Sunshine State Conference prevailed thanks to a .290 to .160 advantage in attack percentage.

The Griffins (0-4) were led by 10 kill from outside hitter Amanda Spere as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team completed its first trip to Alaska.
