Hockey heads North for final series

Alaska Anchorage will play its final series of the season at Alaska Fairbanks as part of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Feb. 23-24.

Series
Alaska Anchorage leads the all-time series with Alaska Fairbanks 89-66-12, and the Seawolves lead 40-38-6 in Fairbanks. The Nanooks have won the last seven meetings against the Seawolves.

First Goal
Sophomore Tomi Hiekkavirta scored his first career goal in last weeks loss to No. 14 Bowling Green. The Helsinki, Finland, native has five assists for six points in 37 career games.

Scoring Continues
Senior Alec Butcher scored his seventh goal, and ninth point, in his last 14 games. The Anchorage, Alaska, native ranks second on the team in goals with seven.

Mantha For Hobey
UAA goalie Olivier Mantha is currently a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award. Mantha holds the record for career saves at UAA with 3,718.

Third Period
The Seawolves have scored 42-percent (24-57) of its goals in the third period.

Academic Honors
Alaska Anchorage had 10 players earn WCHA Scholar-Athlete Awards, Cam Amantea, Jarrett Brown, Alex Jackstadt, Tad Kozun, Olivier Mantha, Nolan Nicholas, Jonah Renouf, Nathan Renouf, Nils Rygaard and David Trinkberger. To earn the award, student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution and have a grade point average of 3.5.
