INDIANAPOLIS – With three matches left in the regular season, the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team is just inside the playoff bubble as the Seawolves fell to No. 8 in the latest NCAA Division II West Region rankings, released Wednesday.
After splitting matches at Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington, the Seawolves are still one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams among the top 10 in the West, along with No. 2 Western Washington, No. 3 Simon Fraser and No. 6 Central Washington.
California Collegiate Athletic Association frontrunner and nationally 3rd-ranked Cal State San Bernardino leads the way, with CCAA squads Cal State LA at No. 4 and Cal Poly Pomona at No. 7. Pac West Conference teams Chaminade, Azusa Pacific and Biola stand fifth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
The GNAC and Pac West regular-season champions and CCAA Tournament champion receive automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament, along with the next five highest ranked teams at the conclusion of the season. The final regional poll will be released Nov. 17, leading into the last weekend of the regular season. The national playoff field will be unveiled Nov. 22 at 3:30 p.m. AST on ncaa.com.
The Seawolves conclude the regular season with a showdown Saturday at Alaska Fairbanks, and their home finales Nov. 18 against Western Oregon and Nov. 20 against Saint Martin's at the Alaska Airlines Center.
