BELLINGHAM, WASH. – Elano Cano had a busy day at the Western Washington University Invite winning two events and finishing on the podium in three others.
Cano won the 400 hurdles (1:04.94) and finished third in the 100 hurdles (15.02). She finished third in both the long (17-6) and high jumps (4-11.5) before capping the day with a win in the 4x400 (4:07.82).
Joshua Wagner came within 0.01 of a second of setting a new school record in the 110 hurdles but still got the win 14.75. He followed up with a runner-up finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.16, the seventh-best time in school history.
Lawson Sims collected his first career individual win for the Seawolves winning the steeplechase in 9:18.69, the ninth-best time in program history.
Enrique Campbell extended his winning streak by taking top honors in the 200 (22.29) and 400 (50.01).
Tylantis Atlas won the 800 in 2:19.71.
"We had a lot of positive competition across the board," said head coach Ryan McWilliams. "Some ups and downs for sure, but feeling great about the direction we are headed."
Cole Nash and Jacob Moos finished third (3:55.84) and fifth (3:56.89) in a competitive 1,500.
In the women's 1,500, Sofija Spaic was fourth (5:17.35) and Arielle Himelbloom was fifth (5:26.03).
Kaitlyn Backman was third in the 400 (1:01.20) and fifth in the 200 (26.66).
Alfin Nyamasyo was third in the 800 (2:23.27), and Victoria Johansen was fifth in the 400 (1:03.70).
Daryl Bushnell was fourth in the 400 hurdles (57.60) with teammate Andrew McGill one spot behind (58.87).
Haley Bartolaba was third in the women's 400 hurdles (1:09.65).
The men's 4x400 relay of Enrique Campbell, David Sramek, Joshua Wagner and Andrew McGill finished second in 3:26.81.
David Sramek was third in the pole vault (13-7.75), and Carlotta Duenninger was fifth in the high jump (4-9.5), the 10th-best mark in school history.
The University of Alaska Anchorage track and field team will compete at the John Knight Twilight hosted by Western Oregon on April 9-10.
