Jessica Johnson posted team-high scores on two events and the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team a got solid all-around from senior
Kylie Reese to earn a 192.250 score in Sunday's tri-meet at Cadet West Gymnasium.
The Seawolves placed third behind UC Davis (195.075) and host Air Force (194.900), though improved their score nearly six points from Friday's opening meet.
"This team faced nothing but adversity and challenges since March 2020 – from having our team eliminated to having our 2021 season canceled, then not being able to practice at the beginning of this season due to Covid protocols," said UAA coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch, who made her head coaching debut in Friday's dual against Air Force. "We had only two returners with us on this trip, and we made marked improvement from Friday to today. Today we looked closer to what we've been practicing all preseason. It's always still on our minds that this could be our last season ever, so we encourage our fans to
donate."
UAA got a 38.075 all-around effort from Reese, a Seattle Pacific transfer who competed all four events for the first time in her career. The Oregon native posted career-bests of 9.7 on vault and 9.625 on bars, while tying her best score on floor with a 9.8.
The Seawolves took the early meet lead after one rotation with a 48.675 team score on floor exercise, led by Johnson's 9.825.
Alyssa Manley scored 9.725,
Hayley Perkins had a 9.675, and sophomore
Mackenzie Robinson rounded out the team score with a career-high 9.65.
Manley and Johnson tied for team-high honors on bars with 9.75s, and Perkins scored a 9.7.
Freshman
Montana Fairbairn and Robinson led the way on beam with a 9.725 and 9.65, respectively.
