HILO, Hawaii – Sophomore guard
Lachlan Viney scored 16 points to help stake Alaska Anchorage to a late lead, but it was not enough Monday as Hawaii-Hilo rallied late for an 87-82 overtime victory in men's basketball action at Afook-Chinen Auditorium.
The Seawolves (2-3) also got 15 points and five rebounds from junior forward
Sawyer Storms as they fell for the third time in four days by five points or less.
The Vulcans (2-0) were led by 28 points and 13 rebounds from forward Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones and 22 points from guard Darren Williams, who tied the game with a short jumper with 1.4 seconds remaining. Williams then accounted for seven straight points in the extra session to help the hosts pull away. Forward Nadkrick Peat added 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks for Hilo.
Junior forward
Jaedon Bradley scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting (3-4 3FG) for UAA, while senior point guard
Da'Zhon Wyche finished with nine points, five assists, eight rebounds and two steals.
Viney shot 6 of 8 from the field – including 3-of-4 three-pointers – in 30 minutes off the bench, and junior guard
Tyson Gilbert had 11 points and five rebounds.
