BANK TO WORK: Following its Hawaii trip and a bye week, the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team goes to another extreme this week with neutral-court games Friday and Saturday at the Mt. McKinley North Star Bank Invitational in Fairbanks ... UAA takes on Westminster on Friday and Texas A&M International on Saturday – both at noon AST – in its first-ever meetings against both programs.

SCOUTING REPORT: Picked 10th of 15 teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll, Westminster has opened with losses to Western New Mexico (72-59), Texas Permian Basin (81-72) and GNAC preseason favorite Saint Martin's (88-76) ... the Salt Lake City squad is led by Trey Farrer (21.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.7 apg, .583 FG, .815 FT) and Jeremy Dowdell (13.0 ppg, .333 3FG) ... picked 12th of 16 teams in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll, Texas A&M International improved to 4-0 last week with wins over Western Colorado (74-60) and No. 15 Colorado Mesa (73-62) at home in Laredo ... the Dustdevils feature six players averaging between 8.3 and 9.8 points per game, led by Greg Bowie (9.8 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.5 spg, .875 FT) and Jermaine Drewey (9.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, .483 FG).

LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves took three heartbreaking losses in their first D-II outings of the season Nov. 11-14 in Hawaii, falling to Chaminade (82-77), Hawaii Pacific (74-73) and Hawaii Hilo (87-82, OT) ... in the opener, Sr. G Da'Zhon Wyche had 29 points (11-26 FG), 3 assists and 5 steals as UAA nearly erased a 20-point halftime deficit before falling in the final minute against the 'Swords ... Jr. F Sawyer Storms added 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Jr. G Jaron Williams chipped in 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and no turnovers ... the next evening, Wyche tallied 22 points and 7 rebounds and Jr. G Dathan Satchell netted 13 points and 6 rebounds, but the Sharks erased a late deficit with two long three-pointers in the final 30 seconds ... at Hilo, So. G Lachlan Viney delivered 16 points (6-8 FG, 3-4 3FG) off the bench and Storms had 15 rebounds, but the Vulcans tied the game with 1.4 seconds left in regulation and won in the extra session.

EARLY STARTERS: The Seawolves got an early jump on the 2022-23 season with perhaps the earliest counting games in college basketball this year, beating NAIA foe Midway (Ky.), Oct. 27-28 at the Alaska Airlines Center ... in the first game, Jr. F Jaedon Bradley scored 19 points (5-10 FG, 3-5 3FG, 6-7 FT), Sr. PG Da'Zhon Wyche had 12 points and Jr. F Sawyer Storms tallied 6 rebounds, 7 assists and no turnovers as UAA controlled things throughout ... on Friday, Storms paced six double-figure scorers with 19 points (6-8 FG, 6-7 FT), while Wyche had UAA's first double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 assists, along with 6 steals ... So. G Lachlan Viney and Jr. G Tyson Gilbert each scored 13 points in the rematch.

QUITE AN EXHIBITION: The Seawolves put a scare into Div. I program UC Irvine in their lone exhibition game this season, falling 87-83 in overtime at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif., on Nov. 3 ... Sr. G Da'Zhon Wyche had 32 points (12-23 FG, 6-11 3FG), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and no turnovers as UAA erased an 11-point first-half deficit ... Jr. G Dathan Satchell scored 11 points (3-6 3FG) and Jr. G Jaron Williams and Jr. F Jaedon Bradley scored 10 apiece, while Jr. F Sawyer Storms and So. G Lachlan Viney added four assists each.

'WOLF BITES: Sr. G Da'Zhon Wyche has shown the scoring touch that earned him nearly 1,500 career points at his previous collegiate stops, averaging a team-high 17.2 points in his first five games in Green & Gold ... the former West Anchorage HS star ranks 4th in the early GNAC stats in both scoring and assists (4.4 apg), along with 7th in A/T ratio (2.8) and a league-leading 3.4 steals per game ... Jr. F Jaedon Bradley has premiered with double-figure scoring in all five games, ranking 15th in the GNAC with 13.0 ppg ... the CSU-Pueblo transfer also ranks 8th in the league in FT% (.842) and 9th in 3FG% (.524, 11-21) ... Sr. G AJ Garrity leads the GNAC with a .778 (7-9) 3FG%, and is joined by Jr. G Caleb Larsen (6th, .556) and So. G Lachlan Viney (10th, .500) to give UAA four of the top 10 in that category currently.

TEAM NOTES: UAA leads the GNAC stats in turnover margin at plus-8.2, while ranking 2nd in 3FGs per game (10.4) and 3rd in 3FG% (.391) and A/T ratio (1.4) ... the Seawolves have won 13 of their last 14 games at the Alaska Airlines Center ... this year's club is aiming for the 16th winning record in the program's last 17 seasons (the other was .500) and the 37th in 45 seasons of program history ... UAA also boasts 32 winning league records in 40 years of conference play, including 16 of 20 years in the GNAC.

TRUST IN RUSTY: In his 18th season (19th year) at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (316-192) has now led the Seawolves to 15 straight seasons of .500-plus records, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted by associate head coach Ryan Orton (8th season/9th year), Jalon McCullough (2nd season) and volunteer assistant Ryan Engebretsen (2nd season/3rd year).
