Floyd, Stephens capture First Team All-America awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Alaska Anchorage seniors Eve Stephens and Ellen Floyd made program history again Wednesday, becoming the first duo in program history to earn First Team All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The unanimous Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and NCAA Div. II West Region Player of the Year, Stephens earned her third straight AVCA All-America award, following second-team honors in 2019 and 2021. The Palmer (Colony HS) native ranks second nationally with 5.78 points per set and third with 4.75 kills per set, along with top-50 national marks of 0.53 aces per set and .351 attack percentage. She led the GNAC in kills by 1.25 per set and points by 1.75 per set, while ranking fifth in attack percentage, 15th in blocks (0.85 bps) and 19th in digs (2.59).

Stephens was a seven-time GNAC Player of the Week and two-time AVCA National Player of the Week this season, helping UAA to the GNAC title and No. 1 West Region seed. She had double-digit kills in all but two matches (in which she had nine), including a UAA rally-scoring era record 33 kills in a four-set road win over No. 10 Western Washington. The rightside hitter finished as the GNAC and UAA all-time leader in points (2,292.5) and kills (1,926), while also placing top 5 on UAA's career lists for points per set (1st, 4.69), kills per set (2nd, 3.94), attack percentage (5th, .296), aces (3rd, 152), block assists (3rd, 361), sets played (4th, 489), matches played (4th, 132) and victories (5th, 99).

A three-time First Team All-GNAC performer, Floyd added Wednesday's award to her honorable mention All-America accolades from 2019. The 5-10 setter piloted UAA to a .270 team attack percentage – currently eighth-best in NCAA Div. II – as the Seawolves equaled the second-best record in program history at 27-3. The Pensacola, Fla., native ranked 47th nationally and third in the league with 9.99 assists per set, while posting UAA's second-most digs with 2.92 per set. Her other GNAC ranks included sixth in aces per set (0.44) and 13th in digs.

Floyd captured both GNAC offensive and defensive player-of-the-week awards this season, producing a .244 attack percentage and posting nine matches with at least five kills and 30 assists. The UAA and GNAC all-time aces leader (213) and the UAA all-time assists leader (4,773), she also finished top 5 on her program's career lists for assists per set (3rd, 9.64), digs (5th, 1,328), aces per set (3rd, 0.43), sets played (t-1st, 495), matches played (3rd, 134) and victories (t-2nd, 101).
