ANCHORAGE – Junior
Rachel Decious earned top honors on balance beam and floor exercise Friday to lead the Alaska Anchorage team to its first victory of the 2022 season, knocking off Centenary 188.825 to 187.500 at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Competing at home for the first time since Feb. 29, 2020, the Seawolves swept the top three spots on both beam and uneven bars.
The visitors from Louisiana were led by a 38.475 all-around score from Kendall Sanders, and the Ladies' Leilani Johnson and Kendall Huff tied for the best individual score on vault with 9.6s.
UAA trailed after a tough opening rotation on vault, but earned a 47.675 total on bars to draw within two-tenths of a point (93.800-93.600) after two rotations.
Freshman
Alyssa Manley earned her first career event victory with a 9.8 on bars,
Jessica Johnson placed runner-up with a 9.75, and senior
Kylie Reese made it a podium sweep with a 9.625.
The Seawolves took control on beam as Decious produced a career-high 9.875 – tying the 9th-best beam mark in program history – and Johnson and Farrell tied for second with 9.825s.
The most veteran Seawolf, Decious also got into the individual-event win column for the first time in her three-year career.
Manley produced UAA's best vault of the night with a personal-best 9.55.
