UAA Gymnasts Ask Community to Help “Stick the Landing”

The University of Alaska Anchorage Gymnastics team is asking the community to help "Stick the Landing" – a final fundraising effort to gain reinstatement. The collegiate gymnastics team must raise $150,000 dollars by June 30, 2022, for permanent reinstatement by the university.

The University of Alaska Board of Regents voted to eliminate ice hockey, gymnastics, and alpine skiing from UAA athletics following the 2020-21 school year to reduce the university's overall budget. However, the regents offered an opportunity to reinstate the sports programs if supporters could raise enough funds to cover two years of operating expenses. For the gymnastics program, the amount needed is $888,000. Alpine skiing and ice hockey have reached their goals and have been reinstated. The gymnastics program raised enough funds for one year of operation and the regents conditionally reinstated the program for this year, with permanent reinstatement contingent upon the remaining half of the funds being raised by June 2022.

The gymnastics program has raised approximately $738,000 and needs the remaining $150,000 to reach its two-year funding requirement.

The "Stick the Landing" campaign is a push in the final 80 days to raise enough funds by the June 30 deadline. Supporters are asking the community to help reach its goal and may give online at https://engage.alaska.edu/uaa/gymnastics.
