ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team added an elite shooter to its roster Tuesday as head coach
Rusty Osborne announced that
Dathan Satchell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves.
A 6-3, 215-pound guard from Tracy, Calif., Satchell comes north after three seasons in the junior-college ranks, where he scored 809 career points combined at Casper (Wyo.) College and Las Positas (Calif.) College.
He claimed First Team All-Coast Conference North Division honors as a sophomore at Las Positas in 2021-22, averaging 13.8 points on shooting numbers of .478 overall, .434 (79 of 182) on three-pointers and .862 on free throws. Satchell posted 17 double-figure scoring games – including 31-point efforts against Marin and Ohlone – as the Hawks went 27-4 and reached the CCCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
"We are very excited to welcome Dathan to Seawolf Nation," said Osborne. "He has been a part of winning programs at every level, and knows what it takes to be successful. Dathan is an elite shooter with the ability to stretch the floor and put up points quickly. This past year, he had three games with at least eight threes made. In addition, he is a very good ball handler and passer, which is essential to our offensive efficiency. Defensively, Dathan gives us a big, strong body and has a high defensive IQ."
Satchell also posted impressive scoring figures in his two seasons at Casper, averaging 10.9 points on .391 three-point shooting during the Covid-shortened 2020-21 campaign, and 9.3 points on .464 long-range shooting as a true freshman in 2019-20.
As a prep star at Modesto Christian High School, he drained 96 three-pointers over his final two seasons, averaging 10.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a senior.
Satchell joins fellow transfers
Sawyer Storms (6-7, F, Idaho Falls, Idaho/IFHS/Chaminade) and
Jaron Williams (6-4, G, East Anchorage HS/Spokane [Wash.] CC) as the third member of UAA's 2022 recruiting class. All three players will have two years of eligibility with the Seawolves.
