SECOND HALF START: The Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team begins the second half of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference round-robin schedule this week with a single game at rival Alaska Fairbanks ... a victory would give UAA the season sweep, as both clubs are battling to stay in contention for a GNAC Tournament berth.
 
SCOUTING REPORT: Alaska Fairbanks has dropped two straight and six of its last seven since GNAC play resumed on New Year's Eve, earning its lone win this month with a 75-73 home decision over Western Washington ... the Nanooks are led by Adullahi Mohamed (13.0 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.8 apg, .519 FG) and Tyler Mrus (12.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, .513 FG, .421 3FG, .900 FT).

ABOUT LAST WEEK: The Seawolves had a week to forget in the Pacific Northwest, falling 84-76 at Western Oregon on Jan. 19 and 100-73 at defending GNAC regular-season champ Saint Martin's on Jan. 21 ... in the first contest, Jr. G Dathan Satchell scored 16 points and Jr. F Sawyer Storms had 15 points (4-7 FG, 6-8 FT) and 5 rebounds as UAA rallied to slice a 24-point halftime deficit down to one point before the Wolves pulled away ... Jr. G Caleb Larsen added a season-high 11 points in his home state, and So. C Evan Hoosier had his best all-around game as a Seawolf with 9 points (4-5 FG), 2 assists and 2 steals in the loss ... on Saturday, Satchell had career highs of 23 points (8-16 FG, 5-10 3FG) and 4 assists, but the Saints nailed 22 three-pointers and controlled things throughout in Lacey ... Jr. G Tyson Gilbert added 16 points and Hoosier tallied 7 points (3-4 FG) in his first career starting assignment.
 
'WOLF BITES: Jr. G Sawyer Storms has been a consistent force since transfering from regional rival Chaminade, producing double-figure scoring 10 times, including 23 points in the win over Westminster and 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the win at Central Washington ... the Idaho native is UAA's leading active scorer with 10.1 ppg, along with GNAC ranks of 7th in steals (1.6 spg), 11th in FG% (.546), 10th in blocks (0.9 bpg) and 13th in assists (2.7 apg) ... Sr. G AJ Garrity ranks 3rd in the GNAC with a .500 3FG%, along with sterling marks of .586 FG% and .880 FT% ... the SoCal native went 6 of 6 from deep over a 5-game stretch Nov. 14-Dec. 3, with two-game totals of 15 points (4-4 FG, 3-3 3FG, 4-5 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and no turnovers in UAA's wins over Westminster and TAMIU in Fairbanks ... coming off two seasons on the sidelines due to an Achilles' injury and heart surgery, Jr. G Tyson Gilbert has begun to hit his stride, averaging 14.0 ppg since re-entering the starting lineup four games ago ... the Colorado State-Pueblo transfer is UAA's second-leading scorer in GNAC play with 10.2 ppg, boosted by 18 points against WWU and 12 points in the win over SFU ... Gilbert ranks 12th in the league with 1.8 3FGs per game ... Jr. G Dathan Satchell has begun to show the form that made him all-conference performer at Las Positas (Calif.) College, tallying 51 points over the last three contests ... coming off a career-high 23 points at Saint Martin's, Satchell ranks 3rd in the GNAC with 2.4 3FGs per game, posting multiple treys in 10 of his 14 appearances ... other Seawolves among the current GNAC leaders include Jr. G Jaron Williams at 4th in steals (1.7 spg) and 6th in A/T ratio (2.6), Jr. F Jaedon Bradley at 6th in FT% (.838), and So. G Lachlan Viney at 12th in steals (1.4 spg), 15th in FG% (.523) and 16th in assists (2.4 apg).
 
TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves rank among the top 20 in five NCAA Div. II national stats categories, including No. 2 in both turnover margin (+9.3) and turnovers forced per game (20.8) ... UAA is also 3rd in steals per game (11.1), 13th in assist/turnover ratio (1.51) and 16th in assists per game (17.3), along with top-50 ranks of 23rd in fewest turnovers per game (11.2), 37th in 3FGs per game (9.4) ...  UAA leads the GNAC stats in turnover margin, A/T ratio, steals, assists, scoring defense and scoring margin (+13.9), while ranking 2nd in FT% ... this year's club is aiming for the 16th winning record in the program's last 17 seasons (the other was .500) and the 37th in 45 seasons of program history ... UAA also boasts 32 winning league records in 40 years of conference play, including 16 of 20 years in the GNAC.
 
TRUST IN RUSTY: In his 18th season (19th year) at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (323-198) has now led the Seawolves to 15 straight seasons of .500-plus records, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted by associate head coach Ryan Orton (8th season/9th year), Jalon McCullough (2nd season) and volunteer assistant Ryan Engebretsen (2nd season/3rd year).
