ANCHORAGE (Dec. 8) –
Tori Hollingshead led six Alaska Anchorage players in double figures with 13 points and
Senya Rabouin dished 10 assists Friday to pace an 87-43 women's basketball victory over Clarion at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (3-5) also got 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals from junior guard
Kya Pearson as they outrebounded the visitors from Pennsylvania 44-31 and forced 29 turnovers.
The Golden Eagles (0-7) got team highs of 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and five rebounds from Sadre'a Rougeau, but the rest of her teammates shot just 9 of 40 from the floor.
"We finally had a full, healthy lineup in practice all week, and it showed in our execution from start to finish tonight," said UAA head coach
Ryan McCarthy, whose team had dropped four one-possession games in its first seven outings. "We did a nice job defensively of limiting them to tough shots, and we did a great job rebounding as a team."
Coming in with the program's longest losing streak – four games – since Jan. 2006, the Seawolves dominated from the opening tip. UAA outshot Clarion .417 (10 of 24) to .125 (1 of 8) in the opening 10 minutes to build a 23-4 lead, equaling the second-fewest first-quarter points allowed by a Seawolf club since women's college basketball went to quarters in 2015-16.
The Seawolves led 47-18 at halftime and continued to extend the lead throughout the second half, getting 10 points (5-9 FG) and eight rebounds from junior forward
Kate Robertson, 11 points from junior guard
Mia Ross, and 12 points (4-7 FG) from junior guard
Jazzpher Evans.
A junior point guard from Phoenix, Rabouin's 10 assists were the most for a Seawolf since Yazmeen Goo dished 13 against Post on Nov. 17, 2016. She also had nine points and five steals.
Junior forward
Jaisa Gamble added eight points (4-5 FG) and four steals, and junior guard
Ja'Niah Alexander had eight points and career highs of nine rebounds and three assists. Hollingshead finished 5 of 8 from the floor, 3 of 3 at the foul stripe and grabbed six rebounds, helping UAA shoot a season-best .929 (13 of 14) on free throws.
UAA and Clarion meet for a rematch Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center. Tickets and live links are available at GoSeawolves.com.
