AMES, Iowa – Led by big days from senior
Rachel Decious and sophomore
Montana Fairbairn, the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team earned its second-highest score of the season Sunday in a 195.525-192.500 loss to Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum.
The Seawolves scored 9.7 or better on all six of their beam routines, led by Decoius's runner-up 9.825, Fairbairn's career-high-tying 9.775 and
Marcela Bonifasi's career-high-tying 9.725.
Mackenzie Robinson,
Paola Ruano Barahona and
Shannon Farrell all tallied 9.7s as the 48.725 total ranked No. 6 on the program's all-time list for that apparatus.
Sophomore
Alyssa Manley led the way on floor with a 9.8 and uneven bars with a third-place 9.775, while Fairbairn and sophomore
Silje Hildebrand posted team-high 9.6s on vault.
"After winning (at Simpson) on Friday, we're ecstatic to get our second-highest score of the year today – this time on the road," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "We have some small deductions to iron out next week in the gym, and we're looking forward to our remaining meets to show off exactly those corrections."
Decious added a 9.775 and Robinson a 9.7 on floor, and sophomore
Emily Walker produced a 9.625 on bars.
UAA's totals on vault (47.550), bars (47.925) and beam (48.725) all ranked second-best this season, while the 48.300 on floor was the Seawolves' third-best of 2023.
