Montana Fairbairn and sophomore
Ariana DeSouza posted impressive three-event showings as the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team recorded a season-high score of 192.425 on Sunday at Pizzitola Arena.
UAA earned the fourth-best balance beam score in program history at 48.800, finishing second in the three-way competition behind host Brown (192.900). Southern Connecticut finished third with a 191.100 total.
The Seawolves got a career-high 9.85 from Fairbairn as the junior from Alberta tied the 15th-best mark in program history. Sophomore
Paola Ruano Barahona and freshman
Claudia Lessig had 9.75s, and DeSouza and senior
Jessica Johnson tallied 9.725 as UAA set a program record for beam score in a regular-season road meet.
"We're proud to see that we're continuing to climb this season," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch, whose team has raised its total score in each of its four meets. "We've made adjustments and positive changes each meet to reach yet another season high. We will have two weeks at home to hopefully keep up this trend."
UAA totaled 47.900 on vault as freshman
Maddy Murphy picked up the win with a 9.775. It was the first victory for the Seawolves this year and the first by a Seawolf on vault in a three-team competition since 2016 (M'rcy Matsunami).
Fairbairn added a 9.7 and
Brooklyn Kopsack a 9.525 on vault.
Fairbairn also led the way to a 48.000 floor total with a 9.775, along with a 9.65 from senior
Silje Hildebrand and a 9.625 from Murphy.
Lessig's 9.675 paced a 47.725 total on uneven bars, while senior
Emily Walker had a 9.65 and junior
Hayley Perkins a 9.575. Walker has now scored 9.6 or better on all four of her bars routines this year.
The Seawolves get a weekend off before traveling to Shreveport, La., for dual meets against Centenary on Feb. 9 and 11.
