Peckham runs to 91st at NCAA National Championships

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – John Peckham of the University of Alaska Anchorage finished 91st at the NCAA Div. II Cross Country National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Saturday.

Peckham, a native of Sisters, Ore. covered the 10-kilometer course in 31:15.

"The race went out super quick as expected," said Peckham, who was near the back of the pack for the first two-kilometers. "I planned to go out conservative and move my way up into the top-100, and if everything went perfect, crack into the top-40 or 50. Things didn't go perfectly, but I was still really content with how everything went."

"John showed a lot of grit after getting out a little more carefully than was ideal, but he moved up well throughout to finish well over 100 spots higher than last year's NCAA Championship Meet," said associate head coach Chas Davis. "It was a good day."

The Sacramento area experienced heavy rains leaving the course with standing water in several spots. John was happy with how well the course held up despite all the rain.

John said the support from his coaches and teammates, both the ones at the race, and the ones back home was incredible.

The cross country season has concluded for UAA, and the Seawolves will turn their focus to the indoor track and field season with their first competition in January.
