Claudia Lessig posted a 38.400 all-around and fellow freshman
Maddy Murphy led an impressive performance on vault for the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team Saturday at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at The Nest.
The Seawolves finished with 191.750 team score, with their 48.575 vault total tying for fifth-best in program history. League newcomer Southern Utah topped defending champion UC Davis 196.625 to 196.525 in a razor-thin battle for the title, while host Sacramento State was third with 196.125.
Murphy matched the eighth-best vault in UAA history with a 9.85 and senior
Silje Hildebrand earned a career-high 9.775 as the Seawolves topped the 48-point barrier on vault for the sixth straight time to end the season. Junior
Montana Fairbairn flipped a 9.75, Lessig a 9.625, and senior
Brooklyn Kopsack rounded out the scoring with a 9.575.
"The consistency of our vault performances over the entire season have paid off with today's historic showing," said UAA head coach
Marie-Sophie Boggasch. "With vault being our weakest in the past, today foreshadows a bright future for the team in coming seasons."
Fairbairn completed an outstanding three-event effort with a career-high 9.825 on floor exercise –tying for sixth among 24 competitors – and a 9.8 on balance beam.
Senior
Jessica Johnson also earned a 9.8 on beam, while senior
Shannon Farrell's 9.675 aided a 48.225 total on that apparatus.
Fairbairn's floor score was complemented by a 9.625 from sophomore
Madelyn Gomez, along with 9.575s from Lessig and sophomore
Ariana DeSouza, as UAA totaled 48.125.
Lessig tied her career-best 9.725 and senior
Emily Walker tallied 9.65 to lead the Seawolves on uneven bars.
